...just because this song deserves to be analyzed.

You know, what some people don't realize is that the main themes of both Sonic Adventure games are also Super form themes. One said this earlier this year at a forum I go to: "It's not Super Sonic's theme, but the theme of Sonic Adventure."

Wrong. "Open Your Heart" is Super Sonic's theme. SEGA just labeled it the main theme to avoid spoilers. Heck, go to the Sound Test, go down, and select "Theme of Super Sonic." An instrumental of OYH plays.

"Open Your Heart" is about the final battle against Perfect Chaos, the heavy damage that the water beast had done, and most importantly, Super Sonic's determination to neutralize Chaos. Even the song title alone shows that it is SS's theme: Sonic, with his pure heart, unlocks the positive energy of the Emeralds and becomes his Super self.

Here's the analysis. Note that these are my thoughts and opinion on the song.

S. Sonic looks at the damage done by Chaos: buildings ruined, cars flipped over, and streets heavily flooded.

Shadows of dark creatures
Steel clouds floating in the air
People run for shelter
What's gonna happen to us!?

S. Sonic feels that everyone's been terrified by the damage that Chaos inflicted, and that they don't know what's gonna happen to them.

All the steps we take, all the moves we make, all the pain at stake
I see the chaos for everyone who are we what can we do

Same as above.

You and I are the same in the way that we have our own styles that we won't change
Your's is filled with evil and mine's not there is no way I can lose

Both Sonic and Chaos are powered by the Chaos Emeralds; Sonic using the positive side, Chaos using the negative side. And Sonic is saying that Chaos is filled with anger, but Sonic's bravery and courage will gain the upper hand in this battle.

Can't hold on much longer - But I will never let go
I know it's a one way track - Tell me now how long this'll last
I'm not gonna think this way - Nor will I count on others
Close my eyes and feel it burn - Now I see what I've gotta do

No matter what happens, S. Sonic will never give up in trying to neutralize Chaos. There's no one he can't rely on, so he's gotta do it himself. And with the positive energy of the Emeralds, now he sees what he's gotta do.

Open Your Heart, it's gonna be alright...

Super Sonic is here, and he's gonna wash out the anger within Chaos.

Ancient city blazing
Shadows keep attacking
Little children crying
Confusion, hopeless anger

I don't know what it can be but you drive me crazy
All your cunning tricks make me sick, you won't have it your own way

Well, admittingly, this fits Chaos more, considering what he has gone through to make him uber angry. But on the other hand, this is saying that Sonic's reminiscing what Tikal showed him, and that Sonic won't let history repeat itself.

If it won't stop, there will be no future for us
Its heart is tied down by all the hate, gotta set him free

This should be obvious. But in general, this is saying that if good can't conquer evil, well, the world's society would fall apart.

With the above, this should convince those who say it isn't SS's theme. I'm okay if it doesn't, though.

So yeah, not only is it the main theme, but it's also Super Sonic's theme. But not the best, IMO. That goes to "What I'm Made Of...", because it describes Super Sonic in general.

Now the only song that I haven't analyzed yet is "Live & Learn." That song is kinda hard to decipher. X_x;
