Quote of truth. + "His World" analysis.

"When you're on the Internet, you risk yourself, and everything you do, as the potential targets for many negative things. Negative opinions, harrassment, parodies... No one is safe on the Internet."

So were my thoughts when I saw ~ihearrrtme's "Sonic Hates Fancharacters" pic and her mention of Encyclopedia Dramatica, which I've mentioned several times to people about that article of me on there. Apparently, ED also makes fun of other fan-made stuff as well... Seems like ED is becoming the next YTMND or something.

"Oh well. Its the Internet." says my mind every time I see something like that. And thus, I shrug it off.

Anyone else agree with my quote?

Anyway...hm...I feel like doing a short analysis of the song "His World," which I'm currently quite addicted to it. Seriously, it's like the best Sonic song ever, IMO.

Well, as you know, the song has three versions of it. Really, it's only two in lyrical terms: Zebrahead's version and Crush 40's version. It's just that ZH's version has two musical variants: the vocalist-only variant and the full band one.

Nevertheless, they all have the same chorus lyrics (with the exception of Matty's additional lyrics in the full band variant of the ZH version), written by Johnny Gioeli, lead singer of Crush 40. Yep, the chorus lyrics were all his doing, so with this, I really think the Crush 40 version was the original version of "His World." Its just that the sound director for Sonic '06 happened to be a huge ZH fan, so he hired them to sing "His World" instead, according to Sonic CuLT...

Meh... ZH's versions sound great on their own, but Crush 40 just blows them out of the water. The C40 version should've been the one in the game instead, and would've made a great final boss song for Solaris Phase 2. I mean, Johnny just sings the chorus better than Matty. Although perfect for the ZH versions, Matty just sounds like a drunken idiot in them, really. He can do better than that.

Alright, now the analysis. I'm just gonna do the chorus, as both versions have different verse lyrics. I'll comment on them afterwards.

So "His World" is labeled as the theme of Sonic. However, it also fits Super Sonic as well in the chorus. Some people who don't like the song claim that the lyrics don't make sense. "Compromise does not exist? The hell?" they say. Well, they don't get it, but I do.

In this world,
where life is strong.

Sonic/Super Sonic always stays strong, emotionally. Nothing will let him down in the fights against evil.

In this world,
life's an open book.

Freedom is his will, his way....as was always seen with him in the games. As Super Sonic, though...well, I guess you can say he won't let evil-doers take away that freedom from him and others.

Alternatively, if you like to think this way, Sonic sees life as an open way of possibilities. He would accept anything that would benefit him, like using the Emeralds for the first time.

In this world,
where compromise does not exist.

I think people are taking this too literally. It's a throwback to Sonic's theme in Sonic Adventure, "It Doesn't Matter": And I won't give in, won't compromise.

Basically, this is saying that Sonic/Super Sonic won't let anything stop him from doing what is right. He always makes the right choice; making the wrong ones will compromise.

In his world of worlds, every step meets the risk!

Should be obvious. The steps that he take to defeat the evil are risky, but he does them anyway. Heroes always risk their lives to save the world, one way or another... This one fits Super Sonic more, IMO.

In this world,
where one is all.

He's always the one to look up to when it comes to saving the world. Even though he gets help sometimes, all hopes and prayers rest on him. Again, more Super Sonic-ish here.

In this world,
never fear the fall.

Sonic/Super Sonic never fears his enemy or the risky things that he does. A bit of courage-ism here.

In this world,
where compromise does not exist.
In his world of worlds, every step meets the risk!

Well, that's how I see it at least.

As for the two different verses, well, the ZH version seems to be talking about normal Sonic, his speed, and his attitude; how "he is the best there ever was." The C40 version, however, is obviously talking about Super Sonic:

He's the fire, flame, inflicting pain...

He's the tower, power, admits no shame.
Untouched and crushed and will remain...

The power lives inside, of, you! Inside, of, you, yeeeaaah!!!

See what I mean? Not to mention the overall heavy metal style of the song... It makes sense, though. In the past games, the main theme was always the Super theme as well (except for Sonic Heroes. "What I'm Made Of" was the Super theme in that.) Seems Crush 40 tried to do the same thing here, but it didn't end up in the game itself.

So...

Zebrahead ver. = Sonic
Crush 40 ver. = Super Sonic / the true main theme.

Yeah, and thus is my take on the song. As you can see, this is why I renamed my debut fic remake to "His World," because the song really does fit with my story. Read it, and you'll see how.

I still say they should have used a full version of the E3 theme as the main theme. IMO, that song is the better theme song for the music alone.

Though if I had to pick a vocalist for it, it'd be Crush 40 because the guy on ZH can't sing worth a damn (at least not in this song)

However, my personal favorite is still the ZH one (albeit mine's a bit altered). I don't know...the song is just awesome

That is the coolest sonic song I ever heard, I've been watching AMVs of both versions and I never get bored of it...I just may draw a comic using those lyrics, it would be cool.

His World is indeed a great song, all versions, although I don't think it's the best (What I'm Made Of is still my fave). Nice analysis too btw. Crush 40's version should've really been in the game..

Boy, do I ever agree with that quote. If you can't develop a sort of "thick-skin" you'll end up being torn to shreds.

Awesome analyzation(sp?) there. His World is one of my favorite Main Themes.

i do agree though that you can't let everything bother you but if i don't i get long term results, no sleep, no appitite, and i'm going to be on more pills now for focus and some to keep my moods in check. so not everyone can blow things off very easy but i do agree, just wish i could do that.
